School Food Ambassadors

What is School Food Ambassadors?

A group of pupils are elected and trained to monitor school food with the support of a key member of staff. They gather feedback from their peers, alongside other evidence from monitoring and report back to the school cook and senior leadership to influence change. It is about encouraging pupils to take a proactive role in their school’s food provision. It’s about pupil voice and school catering working together.

Projects pupils are undertaking so far include,

  • Monitoring food waste at lunchtime
  • Using results from a survey of both parents and children to set up a healthy tuck shop
  • Monitoring wastage of school milk
  • Investigating improving/decorating the school dinner hall
  • Healthy packed lunch poster competition
  • Displaying daily menu in both written and picture form

The West SILC Ambassadors are,

Mariam, Hasan, Thomas, Luke, Harrison, Ryan, Bobbie Jo, Shannon and Brandon.

Students are supported by teaching assistants from each class. Student’s  attend regular meetings with Tina Hobson ( School Food Ambassador lead ) the school cook and members of the Senior Leadership team.
